Holy Vedas

The Holy Vedas are a collection of Religious Texts which are attributed to the Hindu Religion. At the time when the Vedas existed, there was no religion. The only religion existing at that time was called "Sanatan Dharam". As other religions gradually formed based on the relevation of various other texts, Vedas got attributed to Hinduism. Hence today, Vedas are referred to as religious texts of Hindus whereas in reality they are for the whole humankind. 

How many Vedas are there?

There are 4 Vedas. These are as follows.

  1. Rigveda
  2. Yajurveda
  3. Samaveda
  4. Atharvaveda

Who wrote the Holy Vedas

Vedas were written by Sage Ved Vyas. Sage Ved Vyas wrote the vedas at the beginning of the Kalyuga. There are 4 yugas. More information about the duration of these yugas can be read in the article on Age of Brahma. Sage Ved Vyas had to write the vedas because the vedas had perished during natural disasters.

The first appearance of the vedas happened at the time of churning of the ocean which happened during the formation of the universe. The Vedas were obtained by Lord Brahma during the churning of the ocean who read them and propagated its knowledge to his children i.e all the sages.

What is the Language of the Vedas

Vedas were written by Rishi Ved Vyas in Sanskrit. The original manuscript of the Holy Vedas is in Sanskrit language. These have now been translated in many languages.

What is the Main Mantra given in the Vedas?

Vedas sing the glory of the Om Mantra (ॐ). There is no bigger Mantra other than Om in the Vedas. Yajurveda Adhyay 40 Mantra 15 clearly describes the Om (ॐ) Mantra.

However, it is also mentioned in the vedas that the Supreme God invents mantra of his worship and imparts it to his devotees. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 95 Mantra 2 says that God imparts secret mantra to his devotees. This is different to the Om mantra.

What do the Holy Vedas say about the Form of God?

The Vedas describe the God to be in form. Vedas prove that God is corporeal. Those who claim that vedas suggest that god is formless are ignorant. Yajurveda Adhyay 1 Mantra 15 and Yajurveda Adhyay 5 Mantra 1 clearly describe the God to be in form. God is not formless.

What is the Name of God in the Holy Vedas?

Vedas clearly mention the name of Supreme God as Kavir Dev. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 20 Mantra 1 describes the name of Almighty God as Kabir. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 82 Mantra 2 also describes the name of God as Kavir Dev or Kabir. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 96 Mantra 17 also tells the name of God as Kavir.

Does God appear on Earth as per Vedas?

God can appear at any time on earth. Vedas prove that God meets his good souls when he appears on earth. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 86 Mantra 26 clearly says that God meets deserving souls on earth.

God can also appear in an infant form on earth. Rig Veda Mandal 9 Sukt 1 Mantra 9 says that when God appears as an infant, He is nourished by maiden cows.

Can God destroy the sins of his worshipper as per Holy Vedas?

In Yajurveda Adhyay 5 Mantra 32, it has been clearly mentioned that God can forgive sins. It says that God can eliminate the most heinous sins of his devotee. Yajurveda Adhyay 8 Mantra 13 also corroborates this fact that God can forgive sins.
