Is God Formless or Corporeal

What does Bible say about God? Is God formless?

The first chapter of Bible is the Book of Genesis. It describes how the earth and sky were formed by the Lord God. There are various verses in Genesis which are worth a second read as they describe the form of God. Below are some verses from the Bible which actually describe God to be "in form" or corporeal.

Genesis | Bible

1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

1:27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The above verses from Bible clearly mention that God made humans like himself. He made them male and female. This proves God to be in form.

3:8 - And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

3:9 - But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” (This also shows that the God in Bible is not all knowing)

3:10 - And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself."

3:22 - And Jehovah God made long garments from skins for Adam and for his wife, to clothe them.

In the above verses from Bible, Lord God is described as walking in the garden. Both Adam and Eve can hear the God walking and thus they hide themselves because they are naked. This again proves God to be in form.

18:1 - And the LORD appeared to him (Abraham) by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.

18:2He (Abraham) lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth.

18:4 - Please, let a little water be brought and have your feet washed; then recline under the tree.

18:5 - Seeing that you have come here to your servant, let me bring a piece of bread so that you may refresh yourselves

In the above Bible verses, The Lord God appears before Abraham who then bows unto them. Moreover Abraham requests God's feet to be washed and then God reclines under a tree. Abraham even brings a piece of bread for God to eat. No wonder the Lord God is in form as he talks, walks, vistis, eats and can be seen. He also reclines and has feet, which can be washed. This clearly shows God to be corporeal (in form).

There is another vivid account in Exodus 33 which again proves that God is not formless, but has a human form.

Exodus 33 | Bible

There is an account of Lord God meeting Moses where Moses requests God to show him his glory. The verses are self explanatory. Please read below.

33:18 - Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

33:19 - And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

33:20 - But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

33:21 - Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.

33:22 - When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by

33:23 - Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

The above account from Exodus clearly shows that Lord God has a face, a back and a hand. Lord God makes it clear that his face cannot be seen.

This again proves that God is in human form. He has a face, a back, a hand and every other body part like a human. The fact is that God doesn't want to be seen. Just because God cannot be seen does not mean he is formless. He is just hiding. He does not want to be seen. But he has a Human form.

The same account on Moses is also present in Quran. Read Is God formless in Islam.

Conclusion

All the above mentioned verses from Bible prove that God is corporeal. God has a human form. God is not formless.
