What is the Key Message given by Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in 1469 CE in Talwandi, Punjab, currently in present day Pakistan. He was born in Hindu religion in Khatri caste. He had a wife named Sulakhani and two sons.

Guru Nanak Dev ji's visit to Sachkhand

Guru Nanak Dev ji used live in Sultanpur Lodhi at his sister's place. Guru Nanak Dev ji was employed as a store keeper in the local government. Guru Nanak Dev ji use to take bath at the banks of river Bein in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. This river is also called 'Kali Bein'. One day he met God Kabir at the banks of river Bein while he was getting ready to take a bath. After a brief discussion, Guru Nanak Dev ji jumped into river bein from where God Kabir took him to Sachkhand. He then spent three days in Sachkhand with God Kabir. Whole of the Sikh fraternity agrees with the fact that Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent three days in Sachkhand and the Supreme God took him there. However they are oblivious to the fact that it was Supreme God Kabir who took him to Sachkhand.

On returning from Sachkhand, Guru Nanak Dev ji started singing the glory of Supreme God. He started to spread the message of God Kabir by touring around the continent of Asia. His statement on coming back from Sachkhand was, "Now I will do the service of the Supreme Lord". Therefore he resigned from the job of the storekeeper that he used to do at Sultanpur Lodhi. He said that he had been ordered by the Supreme Lord (Akal Purukh) to spread his message.

Guru Nanak Dev ji gave the following main messages

  • Worship the Supreme Lord who is One. There is no one equivalent to him.
  • Our real home is Sachkhand which is an eternal place and does not get destroyed.
  • The worship of Supreme Lord can done only by gaining the True Name (Satnaam) from a Complete Guru.
  • The name of the Supreme Lord is Kabir and he is in form like a human.

"Dhaanak roop raha Kartaar"

Guru Nanak Dev ji on returning from Sachkhand set out on his first journey. He met Kabir Sahib in Varanasi (Kashi) and on seeing God Kabir in the form of a weaver, he uttered the above mentioned speech in which the key words are "Dhaanak roop raha kartaar". Guru Nanak Dev ji is then saying that this Kabir who is currently performing the role of a weaver (Dhaanak) is Supreme Lord (Kartaar).

"Tera ek naam taarey sansaar"

Guru Nanak Dev ji has also said that your one naam (true mantra) can convey one across. This the message Guru Nanak Dev ji has given via this speech.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji has said very clearly in this speech on page 721. Guru Nanak Dev ji is addressing the Supreme Lord and is saying, "O Creator, the Master, the unqualified Saint, kind “Sat Kabir” (Eternal Kabir), You are flawless God". Guru Nanak Dev ji has clearly mentioned the name of Supreme God as "Kabir".
